Photography for this client is always a pleasure; the locations and models are always top-notch. However, the locations are small, dark, fragile, and therefore very challenging. The budget is low, so I have to do everything on my own. But that makes the job even the more enjoyable.

I come up with a small story within the escape room that fits the theme of the game. From there, I create a situation and start with lighting, that’s where the real challenge begins. It’s tricky to set the camera in the right angle, and what do you do with the light? Some spaces are very dark but also small, so you try to position practical lights and lamps in the most difficult corners, using flags and cinefoil to avoid unwanted bounce.

Since I have some time for each shot, I try to do as much editing as possible in Capture One on the spot, so I can see what my limitations are in post-production and anticipate those during the shoot.
